Insurance Defense and Coverage Law
Defending individuals and businesses against claims of personal injury, wrongful death, and all types of casualty loss has been a cornerstone of our practice for most of our history. Through years of demonstrated courtroom expertise, attention to detail, diligent observance of retention guidelines, and prompt communication with both carrier and insured, we have developed longstanding relationships with many of the major insurance companies and self-insurance programs throughout the country.
Our lawyers enjoy a reputation for distinction in the realm of insurance defense work. As an example, one of our shareholders authored what is widely considered to be the leading treatise on Alabama uninsured motorist law.
Insurance companies regularly call on us because they know that our lawyers offer significant experience and skill defending personal injury lawsuits, workers’ compensation matters, and casualty claims of every description. They also know that our lawyers are prepared to try cases in state and federal courts throughout Alabama and surrounding states.
We also have broad experience in the direct defense of insurance companies against claims of bad faith and fraud, and we have successfully defended matters of this nature on numerous occasions.
In addition, several of our lawyers also concentrate in the area of insurance coverage law, and we are frequently asked to analyze insurance policy language and render opinions on the scope and extent of an insurer’s responsibilities in underlying personal injury or casualty litigation. In this regard, we frequently serve as coverage counsel, and we regularly represent insurance carriers in declaratory judgment actions concerning coverage issues.
Finally, we believe that a quality, long-standing relationship between lawyer and client extends beyond the defense of specific cases, and, to that end, we regularly conduct seminars for insurance clients in an effort to improve claims handling and educate personnel as to developments in Alabama tort law.
