Since joining the firm as an associate in 2009, Ms. Pitts’ practice has been devoted to civil litigation, with a primary focus on media law, professional liability, and insurance defense. Ms. Pitts has handled a variety of litigation matters for her clients, including legal malpractice defense, medical malpractice defense, uninsured/underinsured motorist defense, and other complex litigation matters. Before joining the firm, Ms. Pitts clerked for the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, after clerking for the Honorable W. Swan Yerger, presiding judge of the First Judicial District of Hinds County, Mississippi.
With Paul M. James, Jr., won a defense verdict in a workers' compensation trial involving a claim of back injury in an on-the-job accident
With Robert C. Ward, Jr., was granted summary judgment on all counts in a suit where the Plaintiffs claimed a swimming pool store failed to properly instruct the Plaintiffs on the use of the product, and that the product was sold in a defective condition, resulting in extensive injuries to the Plaintiffs' sons.
Drafted the 2012-2013 Media Law 50 State Survey – Alabama Section
Obtained a judgment of $190,000 in a contract dispute case
Received a defense verdict in an underinsured motorist action where the plaintiff's medical expenses were more than $90,000
Attained a defense verdict in a case involving a motor vehicle accident where liability rested with the defendant
Acquired a defense verdict involving a rear-end collision which led to the plaintiff missing three weeks of work
Prepared a plaintiff's case for mock trial to aid defense counsel in preparing for a products liability trial
Drafted a successful motion to dismiss on RICO and state law fraud claims which was upheld by the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals
Achieved a dismissal in a federal law conspiracy case involving several State of Alabama projects
Granted summary judgment in an underinsured motorist case
Granted summary judgment in a premises liability action
While attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Ms. Pitts was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the Golden Key Honor Society, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In addition, she received the “License to Learn” Scholarship, and she served as the Cheerleader Squad Captain. In law school, Ms. Pitts was a member of the Moot Court Board. She was among the first to argue in the Carroll Gartin Justice Building that houses the Mississippi Supreme Court, during the finals of the Mississippi Moot Court Competition. In that competition, Ms. Pitts argued before federal appeals court judges, Mississippi Supreme Court justices, and federal district and state judges.
Ms. Pitts is an active triathlete and is on the board of Team MMS, an endurance club which introduces beginners to the multi-sport lifestyle and raises health and safety awareness in the sports of running, cycling, and swimming in the River Region. Ms. Pitts serves as a loan account executive for the River Region United Way. She is a member of First Baptist Church Montgomery. Ms. Pitts is also a member of the Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program.
